This course provides an overview of the iMERMAID project’s innovative approaches to monitoring and remediating chemical pollution across diverse environmental settings. Through five real-world use cases, participants will explore the deployment of advanced technologies for the detection, monitoring, and removal of contaminants of emerging concern (CoECs), including agricultural pollutants, pharmaceutical residues, heavy metals, organic contaminants, and marine pollutants. The course highlights implementation strategies, pilot demonstrations, operational challenges, lessons learned, and the potential of integrated monitoring and remediation systems to support sustainable water and ecosystem management.

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Explain the environmental challenges posed by contaminants of emerging concern in wastewater, landfill leachates, and marine ecosystems.
